One of the craziest things I often hear in the gym is everyone seeking that “magic” workout plan. The magic workout plan that will get them big gains in a short amount of time or that special ab exercise that will take inches off their waist in a few weeks. As we all know, this time of the year is the busiest season for people wanting to make that difference in their lives, the difference to be healthy and fit. My bit of advice would be to pick a workout or fitness regimen that fits your goals and your schedule.
- Evaluate your life and decide what your fitness goal(s) will be. Whether it be to lose weight, tone, gain mass or just to be healthy.
- Evaluate your current daily schedule and decide how many days a week you can effectively dedicate to fitness. This can be anywhere from 3 to 6 days per week.
- Look at different workout plans or classes and choose one. Choose that one plan and stick with it! Too often I see people choosing a workout plan, trying it for 4 weeks and scrapping it because they didn’t see any changes. Remember, if it was easy everyone would be doing it. Stick with the plan and you will see results.
If you’re a beginner, start out with a realistic goal and a realistic workout plan. We often see someone choose a goal that they want to achieve only to be discouraged because it didn’t happen in a short amount of time. So pick your goal and set a reasonable time frame to achieve this goal. Start out with 3 days a week and work your way into 5 days a week, allowing your body to adjust to the changes you’re throwing at it.
This will get you started on your journey into fitness and a healthier lifestyle.
